Sofia to kickstart technical works on Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia-Bulgaria energy corridor
The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy has announced that technical work on the implementation of the "green" energy corridor "Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia-Bulgaria" will begin this week in Sofia.
"This week, technical work will begin in Bulgaria on the creation of the 'green' energy corridor, a memorandum on which was signed by four countries in Baku. Deputy ministers from relevant ministries and energy operators are set to meet in Sofia to start work on the new energy corridor," the ministry noted, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy clarified that with the signing of the memorandum, the ministers of the four countries agreed to immediately form a working group at the deputy minister level.
"The technical details for the start of the development of technical and economic justifications should be clarified by June. The first investments will be directed toward maximizing the efficient use of existing capacities," the ministry added.
The energy ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of "green" energy on April 4, thus launching the process of creating a new "green" energy corridor.
The document was signed within the framework of the 11th ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council and the 3rd ministerial meeting of the Green Energy Consultative Council.
According to the document, the ministries of energy of the four countries will facilitate the strengthening of cooperation between the public and private sectors to explore opportunities for modernizing energy systems and implementing joint investment projects aimed at expanding the capabilities of electricity transmission and trade. The memorandum envisions the improvement of energy infrastructure and measures to promote the use of renewable energy sources.
