Spain urges rights-based approach to housing at WUF13 in Baku
David Perejil, Director-General for the 2030 Agenda at Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, on May 19, praised the 13th session of the World Urban Forum as an important platform for addressing global challenges and strengthening international partnerships.
Speaking at the session “Cities at the Front Line of Displacement - Governing for inclusion and sustainability” held within the framework of WUF13, Perejil said housing finance in Southern Europe and the relationship between housing policy and climate change were among the key issues facing governments, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“We must adhere to an approach based on human rights and international law. This is the position of the Spanish government on all issues,” he said.
Perejil said the housing crisis remained one of the world’s major challenges and stressed the need for coordinated international action.
He said Spain was developing monitoring and data systems focused not only on the quantity of housing, but also on quality standards, while simultaneously addressing climate adaptation and housing accessibility.
“We are actively working in this direction,” he added.
