Spanish Trade Secretary leads mission to strengthen business links with Azerbaijan
Maria Amparo López Senovilla, Secretary of State for Trade at the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business, is set to visit Baku, Azerbaijan, next week.
During her visit, López Senovilla will participate in the Azerbaijan-Spain Business Forum on March 11, as well as engage in a series of high-level meetings with Azerbaijani officials and business leaders, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The business forum is expected to feature notable representatives from Spain’s Chamber of Commerce and the Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE). The event is organized as part of a broader trade mission spearheaded by the Spanish Trade and Economic Office in collaboration with the Association of Agricultural Producers (AGRAGEX).
The primary aim of the mission is to explore the business opportunities within Azerbaijan’s agricultural and agro-industrial sectors. Spanish companies will have the chance to either enter the Azerbaijani market or broaden their existing presence. This move is expected to facilitate stronger business ties and enhance cooperation between the two countries.
The trade mission will feature companies specializing in a variety of sectors, including irrigation systems, greenhouse farming, plant protection products, and both plant and animal nutrition and health. These industries are seen as key areas where Spanish expertise can contribute significantly to Azerbaijan’s agricultural development.
In 2024, bilateral trade between Spain and Azerbaijan amounted to $309.87 million, representing a sharp decline of 65.12 per cent compared to the previous year. While exports from Azerbaijan to Spain plummeted by 79.16 per cent to $163.7 million, imports from Spain saw a positive increase of 41.73 per cent, reaching $146.18 million. This shift highlights the evolving dynamics in the two countries’ trade relationship.
