Spokesperson: Moscow values Trump’s mediation role in Ukraine talks
The Kremlin has expressed hope that U.S. President Donald Trump will continue his mediation efforts to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described security guarantees as a central issue in the peace process, but said Moscow would not discuss the matter publicly, arguing it would not be “useful for the overall effectiveness” of negotiations, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Speaking at a press briefing, Peskov confirmed that the heads of the Russian and Ukrainian negotiating teams remain in contact, though no date has yet been set for the next round of talks in Istanbul.
He stressed that Russia favours a political and diplomatic settlement, provided there is “reciprocity” from Kyiv.
“We highly value and also hope that the peace-making, mediating efforts of the President of the United States will continue,” Peskov said, adding that Moscow believes such initiatives could help address what he called a “difficult, long-standing conflict not provoked by us.”
