"Sputnik Azerbaijan": Baku addresses media disparity Caliber.Az exclusive
According to exclusive information received by Caliber.Az from reliable sources, to eliminate the existing disparity, Azerbaijan has decided to make certain adjustments to the operations of foreign media representations and branches in the country.
These adjustments will specifically affect "Sputnik Azerbaijan," operating in the country as a branch of the MIA "Russia Today," as well as "BBC" (BBC News Azerbaijan).
To address the existing disparity between the representation of Azerbaijani and Russian state news agencies in Russia and Azerbaijan, respectively, the number of MIA "Russia Today" correspondents in Azerbaijan will be equal to the number of "Azertag" correspondents operating in Russia. Currently, this involves one staff position.
Notably, around 40 people are involved in the operations of the "Russia Today" Baku branch. The branch is expected to be closed, with "Russia Today" continuing its work in Azerbaijan with one correspondent, whose activities will be regulated in accordance with Azerbaijani law and the agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan, signed on January 9, 2001, regarding the status of media correspondents.
