TADIV leadership praises Kazakhstan’s support for Azerbaijan after AZAL plane crash

01 January 2025 14:37

The leadership of the Turkish-Azerbaijani Friendship, Cooperation, and Solidarity Foundation (TADIV) recently visited the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ankara to express condolences over the tragic death of Kazakh citizens in the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash.

The delegation from TADIV, led by Professor Aygun Attar, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Council of the Turkish Presidential Administration, and Hulusi Kılıç, a former Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan and member of TADIV's board, extended their deepest sympathies to Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Erkebulan Sapiyev, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.

The TADIV leaders praised the actions of both the government of Kazakhstan and its citizens, who showed extraordinary solidarity with Azerbaijan following the tragedy, which took the lives of 38 people, including six citizens from Kazakhstan.

Attar emphasized the deep bond between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, stating, "The people of Azerbaijan will never forget the selfless actions of the citizens of brotherly Kazakhstan. Despite the risks, they rushed to aid the passengers and crew of the AZAL plane from the very first moments after the crash. Kazakh citizens formed long lines in hospitals to donate blood for the victims. We will always remember the bravery and solidarity shown by the brotherly people of Kazakhstan."

Attar further stressed the importance of the shared position taken by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, who both called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the tragic event.

The tragic crash occurred on December 25, 2024, when the AZAL Embraer E190, operating the Baku-Grozny route, crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. The crash resulted in the deaths of 38 people, including five crew members, from a total of 67 people aboard, with 29 surviving the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that both external factors and technical issues may have contributed to the crash, although investigations are still ongoing.

Aygun Attar also highlighted the significance of the close cooperation between the two countries in the wake of the disaster, further stressing the deep ties between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. During the meeting, the TADIV representatives conveyed their commitment to continuing support for Kazakhstan in the aftermath of the tragic event.

The meeting was also attended by Ali Akper Tufan, coordinator of TADIV, who also conveyed condolences and reaffirmed the importance of maintaining strong bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan during this challenging time.
