Tajikistan affirms top-level strategic partnership with Russia
Relations between Russia and Tajikistan remain at the highest level of strategic partnership, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin said at a press briefing.
He added that following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Dushanbe last year, dialogue between the two countries remains intensive, Caliber.Az reports per Tajik media.
President Emomali Rahmon may visit Russia in 2026, Muhriddin noted. Currently, more than 16 foreign trips by the Tajik head of state are in the planning stage.
Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Russia were established on April 8, 1992, soon after Tajikistan’s independence.
Since then, the two countries have signed hundreds of agreements covering political, economic, military‑technical and cultural cooperation, including long‑term treaties on friendship and allied cooperation.
Russia and Tajikistan maintain close strategic cooperation, with regular high‑level political dialogue and security coordination; Russia operates its largest overseas military base in Tajikistan, which plays a key role in regional stability and border security, especially concerning Afghanistan.
