Tehran says Iranian army to hold exercise close to Iraq frontier
Iran’s army is set to conduct a military exercise on February 3-4 in the western border town of Qasr-e Shirin, according to the local officials.
The county governor said the exercise will occur on those dates and cautioned residents that any explosion sounds in Qasr-e Shirin, a town close to Iran’s border with Iraq, would be part of the drill, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The upcoming drill comes amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington. On January 28, US President Donald Trump said a “massive armada,” led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and reportedly larger than the fleet previously sent to Venezuela, is heading toward Iran.
Against the backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that any US military aggression against Iran would not remain a bilateral conflict and could escalate into a full‑scale regional war.
