Iran stands firm against border changes, seeks stronger ties with Armenia
During an official visit to Yerevan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian underlined Tehran's firm stance on maintaining regional stability by advocating for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and rejecting any alterations to existing borders.
The remarks highlight Tehran’s strategic approach to the Caucasus and its commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence in this geopolitically sensitive area, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran considers any changes to the territorial boundaries in the Caucasus unacceptable, warning that such moves could ignite geopolitical rivalries and further destabilize the region. “Any changes to borders in the region could become a cause of geopolitical rivalry. In this regard, peace in the Caucasus holds strategic importance for us,” he stated firmly.
The Iranian president also voiced strong opposition to the involvement of external, non-regional actors, arguing that their interference only serves to complicate an already delicate situation. This stance reflects Tehran’s desire to see regional issues addressed and resolved by the countries directly involved.
In addition to advocating for peace, Pezeshkian announced Iran’s intention to deepen its strategic partnership with Armenia. Both nations are committed to enhancing bilateral ties and have plans to increase high-level mutual visits in the near future. Demonstrating this commitment, Pezeshkian extended a formal invitation to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to visit Tehran, signaling a willingness to strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation.
