Yerevan pushes back after Russian official questions Armenia’s loyalty
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has responded to recent remarks by Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, saying that Armenia has, at times, expected its partners to fulfill obligations under bilateral agreements but did not see corresponding actions taken.
Mirzoyan stressed that Yerevan does not seek to escalate tensions with Moscow and remains committed to maintaining constructive relations with Russia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“We are not inclined to create any tension in Armenian-Russian relations. On the contrary, we are committed to continuing our partnership in a normal and constructive manner,” Mirzoyan said.
His comments came in response to statements by Shoigu, who earlier suggested that the conduct of Armenia’s current authorities does not always align with the spirit of allied relations between the two countries.
Mirzoyan, however, indicated that the issue of mutual commitments should be viewed in a broader context, noting that “everything is relative” when assessing the behavior and obligations of partners.
