Tragic explosion at petrol station in Makhachkala claims 10 lives
A devastating explosion at a petrol station in the outskirts of Novy Khushet, Makhachkala, Dagestan, has resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals and left 21 others injured, the Russian Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief Ministry said.
Among the casualties, officials have confirmed that there are children, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
The explosion occurred in the Karabudakhkent district, leading to the complete destruction of the petrol station. The mayor's office reported that the explosion caused a fire engulfing approximately 500 square meters, affecting the technical station and adjacent canteen. Additionally, two cars and a lorry sustained significant damage in the incident.
Initial reports indicated that five people had died and nine others were injured, but subsequent updates revealed a higher death toll. Emergency services are currently on-site, managing the situation and providing assistance to those affected.
September 28 was declared a day of mourning in connection with the explosion at the petrol station in Makhachkala.
The local authorities and emergency responders are investigating the cause of the explosion as the community grapples with the tragic aftermath of this incident.
