Turkish FM calls OSCE’s closure of Minsk process “historic” decision
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the OSCE’s decision to close the Minsk Group and its related structures as a “historic” step, noting that it had become possible through the joint efforts of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the 32nd OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Vienna on December 4, Fidan said the conclusion of the process, formally ended as of December 1, 2025, reflected changing regional conditions and cooperation between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Fidan also indicated that the OSCE’s recent progress on adopting its budget, along with ongoing work under the Helsinki+50 agenda and possible organisational reforms, could help reinvigorate the institution.
Turning to wider security issues, Fidan stated that Türkiye would continue supporting peace initiatives in other regions, including Ukraine. With the war nearing its fifth year, he said the drive for a diplomatic settlement had gained urgency and noted recent US efforts to facilitate dialogue.
He added that the risk of a further protracted conflict made it important to maintain momentum toward a long-term political solution.
