Turkish FM thanks Azerbaijan: Friend in need - friend indeed VIDEO
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan and other countries for their assistance in eliminating the consequences of powerful earthquakes.
“A friend in need is a friend indeed! We are grateful,” Report informs citing the foreign minister's message on Twitter.
Cavusoglu shared the footage in which rescuers from Azerbaijan and other countries are carrying out search and rescue operations.
Two powerful earthquakes occurred in southeastern Türkiye on February 6, one of which was with an epicentre in the Pazarcik region of Kahramanmaras city measuring 7.7 while the second one - nine hours later in the Elbistan region of the same city measuring 7.6. The earthquakes caused massive destruction and killed numerous people in Türkiye and Syria.
The tremors were also felt in Lebanon, Cyprus, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Iran, and Egypt.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a seven-day mourning in the country in memory of the victims. Moreover, a state of emergency for three months was declared in 10 earthquake-hit provinces.
So far, 39,672 people died and 105,505 were injured in Türkiye. As a result of earthquakes, a total of 82,000 buildings were damaged.
