In a statement, the Ministry announced: "The Turkish Armed Forces neutralized two PKK/YPG terrorists identified in the Euphrates Shield area in northern Syria, as well as two PKK terrorists located in the zone of the Pençe-Kilit operation and the Gara region in northern Iraq."
Since 2016, Türkiye has conducted a series of military operations in northern Syria, including Operation Euphrates Shield (2016), Operation Olive Branch (2018), and Operation Peace Spring (2019), aimed at preventing the establishment of a terrorist corridor along its border.
These efforts target the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party), a Kurdish separatist group responsible for over 40,000 deaths in Türkiye, and its Syrian affiliate, the YPG. The PKK is deemed a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union. Türkiye's operations also aim to promote the peaceful resettlement of displaced civilians and stabilize the region amid the ongoing Syrian conflict.
