Turkish leader optimistic on positive shift in Gaza after Trump-Putin talks
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed optimism about positive outcomes regarding the Gaza sector after a phone talk between his Russian and US counterparts, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
"We are particularly looking forward to the results of the one-and-a-half-hour conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin," President Erdogan told journalists travelling with him, following his return from an Asian tour, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
"If the outcome aligns with our expectations in a spirit of goodwill, the world will take a completely different step forward," he added.
Earlier, President Erdogan stated that President Trump's plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza represented a serious threat to global peace.
Erdogan criticised Trump's proposal to remove over 2 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, establish US control over the region, and transform it into the "Riviera of the Middle East."
"I view Trump's decision to make such an agreement with a murderer like [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and his threats as a major threat to world peace," Erdogan declared. "At the moment, nobody can take Gaza away from Palestinians, from Gazans. Daring to do something like that is, firstly, a very different threat to world peace."
