Turkish president holds phone talks with leaders of Sudan's Sovereign Council
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held telephone conversations on April 20 with Sudan's Sovereign Council (the African country's governing body) Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Sudan's deputy head of the Sovereign Council and leader of the Rapid Reaction Force (Special Forces) Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti).
The Communications Department of the Turkish President's Administration told Anadolu that the topic of two separate conversations were the recent events in Sudan.
The Turkish leader said that Ankara follows the events in this African country with fraternal sensitivity and concern.
Erdogan recalled that Türkiye has wholeheartedly supported the transitional process in Sudan from the beginning, and the events of recent days have dealt a blow to the Sudanese people's ongoing struggle since 2018, downplaying the significance of the achievements of the transitional period.
Erdogan called on the conflicting parties to end armed confrontation and fratricide.
The Turkish president stressed the importance of resuming dialogue and maintaining sanity in order to resolve the problems in Sudan and ensure the unity of the Sudanese people.
The politician assured that Türkiye will continue to support the Sudanese state and people and is ready to provide a platform for dialogue as a mediator.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring the security of Turkish citizens and structures and their property in Sudan.
The president also noted the need to ensure security at the Khartoum airport in order to form a humanitarian corridor, both for the evacuation of Turkish citizens and the delivery of emergency humanitarian aid to the country.
