Türkiye launches Europe's largest solar power plant
In the Turkish province of Konya the largest solar power plant (SPP) in Europe will be opened on May 2.
SPP "Karapinar" with a capacity of 1350 MW is owned by Kalyon Energy.
As Anadolu was informed in the press service of the company, SPP "Karapinar" covers an area of 20 million square meters. Installation work at the site of the solar power plant started in January 2020.
When fully operational, SPP Karapinar will increase the share of installed solar energy capacity in Türkiye by 20 per cent. The solar power plant consists of 3,256,038 solar panels manufactured by Kalyon Fotovoltaik.
The British government provided active financial support for the project. The total cost of the solar power plant project is estimated at $1 billion. A significant share of this amount was allocated by the British export credit agency UKEF.
The solar power plant will produce 3 billion kW of electricity annually, which corresponds to 1 per cent of electricity consumption in Türkiye.
