Türkiye modernises Azerbaijan's warplanes PHOTO

26 July 2023 15:01

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry and Turkish Aerospace Company TUSAŞ signed a contract to carry out works on the modernisation of avionics and integration of Turkish-made guided and artillery weapon systems on Soviet-made Su-25 attack aircraft in service with the Azerbaijani Air Force.

The sides signed the contract at IDEF’23 International Defence Industry Fair held in Istanbul, Caliber.Az reports per SavunmaSanayiST.com on Twitter.

Earlier, it was reported that TÜBİTAK SAGE integrated the Winged Guidance Kit system (for dropping KGK and Teber precision bombs) into the SU-25 combat aircraft. An Azerbaijani Su-25 attack aircraft performed a successful bombing mission using KGK-83 shortly after the integration during an air exercise in Türkiye. The aircraft's avionics were also modernised, but no details are available.

The KGK-83 system is a Turkish Mk 83 aerial bomb equipped with an aerodynamic kit and INS/GPS guidance system developed by Türkiye's TÜBİTAK SAGE. It is capable of engaging targets at a range of up to 100 kilometres.

Teber - guidance kit for equipping 125 and 250 kg calibre aerial bombs. The kit includes a semi-active laser GSN and tail block with aerodynamic surfaces, which houses the inertial navigation system, space reconnaissance and surveillance system search system, steering actuators and battery.

It is not yet known what Turkish defence industry armament will be integrated into the Su-25 aircraft under the latest contract.
