EU commends Baku-Yerevan peace progress, ready to assist further

17 April 2025 13:09

The European Union has reaffirmed its strong support for the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, commending both countries for their sustained efforts toward reaching a comprehensive peace agreement.

The EU has also expressed its willingness to provide further assistance to the normalisation process, should it be requested by the parties involved, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

According to the European External Action Service (EEAS), Brussels welcomes the recent announcements concerning the completion of negotiations on a draft peace agreement and the steps taken toward the establishment of formal interstate relations between Baku and Yerevan.

“We appreciate the sustained efforts of the two sides over the past years, both in the bilateral format and with the involvement of the international community,” the statement read, underscoring the EU’s recognition of the diplomatic progress made thus far.

The EU further emphasized that the latest developments represent a significant milestone on the path to lasting peace and regional stability. “It is crucial to maintain the progress made and bring the process to a conclusion with the same constructive and compromise-oriented approach. We encourage the parties to sign the draft agreement as soon as possible,” the statement noted.

Brussels has played an active mediating role in supporting dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan in recent years, and the EU’s continued engagement signals its commitment to fostering reconciliation and long-term peace in the South Caucasus.

The EU’s statement comes at a pivotal time, as both Baku and Yerevan move closer to formalising a historic agreement that could pave the way for a new chapter in bilateral relations following decades of conflict.
