Türkiye reveals possible timeframe for Erdogan-Putin meeting
The meeting between Turkish and Russian presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, announced for August, may take place at the end of the month or early September.
Ankara expects Putin to come to Türkiye, but it is possible that Erdogan will visit Russia, RBC reports, citing A Haber.
As reported, the topic of conversation between the two heads of state is the grain deal, which has not been in effect for almost a month.
The deal was concluded in the summer of 2022 by Russia and Ukraine separately, mediated by Türkiye and the UN, and included two parts: the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the Memorandum of Understanding between Russia and the UN. The first part concerned the export of Ukrainian agricultural products from the ports of Odesa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny; the second part concerned the removal of restrictions on Russian agricultural exports.
The agreement has been regularly extended since its conclusion, most recently until July 17. On that day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the agreements "actually ceased to be in force today".
