Türkiye’s Balıkesir experiences shallow 4.4-magnitude earthquake
An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale has been recorded in Balıkesir.
According to Caliber.Az, citing a post from the official social media page of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the quake occurred at 06:46 in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir.
The earthquake struck at a depth of 10.12 km.
Meanwhile, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake has been recorded along the shores of the Caspian Sea, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The tremor occurred at 00:33 local time near Derbent (Russia), 50 km north-northwest of the city. The earthquake’s epicentre was at a depth of 11 km.
No casualties or damage have been reported. The quake was also felt in several regions of Azerbaijan.
Gurban Yetirmishli, Director General of the Republican Seismic Survey Centre under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), stated that there is no threat to Azerbaijan from the earthquake that occurred in Dagestan.
He noted that earthquakes occur almost daily in Azerbaijan, but no significant tremor is expected in any region. Aftershocks of magnitude 1.2–1.3 were recorded, though none were felt.
