Türkiye launches inquiry into school shooting incidents
Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly (Parliament) has initiated an investigation into incidents of shootings in schools Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa, based on a comprehensive approach and international experience.
Yusuf Beyazıt, head of the parliamentary commission on school attack investigations and a lawmaker from the ruling Justice and Development Party, said the commission has already begun its work following the incidents, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
The commission was formed with participation from all political parties and includes 22 deputies, with its leadership approved at the first meeting.
Beyazıt stressed that the investigation would not be limited to a single cause.
In his view, multiple factors must be considered, ranging from family environment and the education system to the influence of social media and broader society.
“If we focus only on one aspect, we may miss other important causes. We aim to examine the issue holistically and propose measures that will help prevent such tragedies in the future,” he noted.
The commission plans to seek input from relevant institutions, experts, and non-governmental organisations, as well as study international practices.
Field visits to Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş are also planned to assess conditions on site and meet with families of victims.
Special attention will be given to the role of the digital environment, interactions between students and teachers, and family upbringing.
Beyazıt said the commission will operate beyond political divisions and will present a final report with recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents.
