Türkiye suspends all sports events due to deadly quake
In Türkiye, after a devastating earthquake that claimed the lives of hundreds of people, all sporting events have been suspended.
Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu announced the decision on Twitter on February 6, Anadolu writes.
Sporting events are suspended until further notice, Kasapoglu said.
All relevant units are on standby and are coordinating with the Disaster Management Authority (AFAD), he added.
As a result of an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 that occurred in the Pazarjik region of Kahramanmarash province in southeastern Turkey, 284 people died in seven provinces of the country and over 2.3 thousand people were injured.
The earthquake occurred on February 6 morning at 04.17 local time. As of 06.30, 42 aftershocks were recorded, the magnitude of the strongest was 6.6.
