Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan container traffic triples, envoy says
The volume of container traffic along the Turkmenbashi-Baku-Turkmenbashi route has nearly tripled in recent years, reflecting a sharp increase in trade and logistical cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan's ambassador to Baku, Gurbanmammad Elyasov, said.
Speaking during an event dedicated to Turkmenistan’s Independence Day, Elyasov highlighted the growing economic partnership between the two Caspian neighbours, noting that overall foreign trade between the countries has more than doubled, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He attributed this positive trend to the strengthening of strategic ties and the development of key regional transport routes.
According to the ambassador, the Caspian Sea plays a vital role in the evolving trade and logistics landscape, serving as a crucial transit corridor between East and West. He emphasised that the development of maritime transport routes has become a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation.
Elyasov also underlined the role of both nations' leaders—President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan—in fostering this momentum. He said their continued attention and leadership have reinforced cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, energy, transport, politics, culture, and humanitarian affairs.
