Ukraine’s ambassador: Azerbaijan rehabilitated over 270 children impacted by war
Over the past three years, 273 Ukrainian children whose parents were either killed or are currently held captive as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war have undergone rehabilitation in Azerbaijan, Ukrainian Ambassador to Baku Yuriy Husyev stated at a press conference.
“This program plays an important role in strengthening cooperation and the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan,” said Husyev, Caliber.Az reports via domestic media.
He added that just a week ago, another group of Ukrainian children arrived in Azerbaijan for rest and rehabilitation. A charity concert was held for them today in celebration of Easter as part of the artistic humanitarian initiative “For Children, for the Sake of the Future. Ukraine – Azerbaijan.”
According to the Ukrainian Embassy, 29 Ukrainian children are currently undergoing rehabilitation in Azerbaijan. These children lost their parents or have parents missing as a result of the conflict.
Alibala Maharramzada, head of the Azerbaijan-Ukraine interparliamentary working group, stressed that today’s event reflects the high level of humanitarian ties between the two nations.
“As is well known, Azerbaijan supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity and stands by the Ukrainian people. We hope the war will end soon, and that even more Ukrainian and Azerbaijani children will take part in joint events in the future,” he said.
Viktoria Tsymbalyuk, representative of Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and head of the “People of the Future” project, noted that over 3,000 Ukrainian children have so far taken part in the “For Children, for the Sake of the Future” charity art initiative.
“This project has already been implemented in around 20 countries. It focuses on children’s socialisation, psychological support, education, and sports development,” she added.
