Ukraine strikes Caspian oil terminal near Novorossiysk
Ukrainian forces have struck the marine terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) near Novorossiysk.
According to the CPC’s Telegram channel, the attack occurred at 04:06 Moscow time (05:06 Baku time) and involved unmanned boats.
The terminal’s offshore loading facility, VPU-2, sustained significant damage.
Operations at the port were immediately halted on the orders of the terminal’s captain, with tankers moved away from the CPC’s waters. No personnel or contractors were reported injured.
The CPC confirmed that the terminal’s emergency protection systems successfully shut off relevant pipelines at the time of the incident, preventing any oil spillage into the Black Sea.
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium connects major energy companies from Russia, the United States, Kazakhstan, and several Western European countries. CPC transports oil from three key Kazakh fields: Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak.
This is the third attack on the CPC’s civilian facilities. Previous incidents targeted the Kropotkinskaya pumping station and caused damage to CPC’s administrative offices in Novorossiysk.
The consortium emphasised that its facilities are civilian in nature and protected under international law.
