UN aims to sign new framework agreement with Azerbaijan in autumn
UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva has said that the UN plans to sign a new framework agreement with Azerbaijan on sustainable development cooperation (2026-2030) in September 2025.
"We hope that by June this year, the cooperation framework document will be finalized and approved, and then in September, we will hold a formal signing ceremony, where we will officially commit to our responsibilities for the next five years," Andreeva said during an event titled “High-Level Strategic Priorities” dedicated to the UN-Azerbaijan Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2026-2030), Caliber.Az reports.
She noted that the sides are currently in negotiations to complete the process by February 4.
"As part of our internal process, we should receive approval from the Azerbaijani government on the final wording by March 7," she emphasised.
During this event, Sustainable Development/UNSDCF Partnership and Program Officer at the United Nations Development Group Fioralba Shkodra has also expressed opinion on this agreement saying that a new UN-Azerbaijan framework document covering 2026-2030 will be developed in close consultation and coordination with the Azerbaijani government.
She emphasized that the framework is a critical tool for planning and executing UN development activities within the country.
"The Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework is the most important instrument for the planning and implementation of UN development activities in each country. Successful results have already been achieved in the implementation of the 2021-2025 framework between the UN and the government of Azerbaijan," Shkodra said.
The new document is expected to build on the achievements of the current framework, further strengthening the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations in advancing sustainable development goals.
