Western Azerbaijan Community calls out PACE leader over anti-Azerbaijani bias
The Western Azerbaijan Community has strongly condemned what it describes as racially discriminatory, slanderous, and biased remarks made by Theodoros Roussopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in an interview with Alpha News.
In a statement reported by Caliber.Az, the community described Roussopoulos’ comments as “crude and irresponsible,” adding that they once again demonstrate the “moral collapse” of PACE.
“PACE has not reacted in any way to the largest-scale human rights violation in the region — the ethnic cleansing carried out by Armenia against more than one million Azerbaijanis. This institution has clearly demonstrated its anti-Islamic orientation and biased attitude toward the Azerbaijani people after Azerbaijan liberated its territories from Armenian occupation,” the statement said.
The community noted that the presence of figures such as Roussopoulos in PACE was a direct insult to the concept of human rights.
“The fact that racists like Roussopoulos, who are upset that Azerbaijan ended the thirty-year Armenian occupation and ensured the return of more than 700,000 internally displaced persons to their homes, and who effectively oppose the right of return for hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia, are represented in PACE is an insult to the very notion of human rights,” the statement continued.
The Western Azerbaijan Community also addressed the broader European public and political circles, urging resistance against individuals promoting division and racial hostility.
“The Western Azerbaijan Community appeals to European society and sensible political forces to stand against elements who sow racism and confrontation on the European continent,” the statement concluded.
