Western Azerbaijan Community: Yerevan has no intention to sign peace treaty with Baku
Western Azerbaijan Community has called on Armenia to fully withdraw its troops from Azerbaijan and enable the safe return of the expelled Azerbaijanis to their homes in Armenia.
The statement made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on September 7, 2023, once again shows that Yerevan has no intention to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and end its territorial claims against Azerbaijan, the community wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), Caliber.Az reports.
“Armenia recognised the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan only nominally. Armenia's position is actually as follows: Armenia recognises Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity if 'the rights and security of Garbagh Armenians are ensured through the Baku-Khankendi negotiations within the framework of the international mechanism'.
By consistently reiterating utopian ideas such as the 'international mechanism,' the Armenian PM actually imposes a condition on Azerbaijan. History well remembers N. Pashinyan's speech with '7 conditions' against Azerbaijan after the 2020 Tovuz battles and the subsequent fate of him and his country. Unfortunately, the Armenian prime minister not only does not sign the peace agreement but also aggravates the situation in the region. We emphasise once again that N. Pashinyan has already destroyed the negotiation process with his address on the 'anniversary of the independence' of the illegal and notorious institution.
Armenia must completely withdraw the remnants of its army from the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan and stop grossly interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs. Armenia should take inspiration from Azerbaijan, which sent a dialogue proposal to the Armenian residents living in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, and must engage in contacts with the Western Azerbaijani Community regarding our return to our ancestral lands,” the statement reads.
