“Woven Pomegranate: Majestic Carpets of Azerbaijan” exhibition opens in Latvia PHOTO
A new exhibition titled "Woven Pomegranate: Majestic Carpets of Azerbaijan" has been inaugurated in one of Latvia's prominent artistic centres - the Riga Art Nouveau Centre.
This event was organised jointly by the embassy of Azerbaijan, Azerkhalcha company, and the Azerbaijan Photographers Union. During the opening, Azerbaijani ambassador to Latvia Elnur Sultanov described the exhibition—marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries—as a significant milestone for further promoting the Azerbaijani culture, Azerkhalcha company said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The exhibition provided insights into the traditional art of carpet weaving and the Pomegranate Festival, both of which are included in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Thus, 2024 has been declared "Green World Solidarity Year" in Azerbaijan, as the country prepares to host prestigious 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Azerkhalcha company is committed to principles of environmental sustainability.
Director of the Museum "Riga Art Nouveau Centre" Agrita Tipane noted that this is the second time Azerbaijani culture has been showcased through such an exhibition. She also mentioned the recently presented book "Eternal Heritage of Azerbaijan in UNESCO", which emphasises the country's rich cultural heritage.
The guests saw the collection "Fruits in the Garden" along with videos showcasing the activity of Azerkhalcha company and the Pomegranate Festival. The carpets featuring pomegranate, woven by using 3D technology, were inspired by the "Fruits in the Garden" collection, a collaborative project between Azerkhalcha company and young artist Samira Allahverdiyeva. The exhibition displayed three pomegranate-patterned carpets in various sizes.
A separate exhibition featuring photographic illustrations of Azerbaijani pomegranates was organised through the support of the Azerbaijan Photographers Union. The Latvian MPs, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives from the state agencies, members of the Azerbaijani community residing in Latvia, and others attended the ceremony. The exhibition will run for a month.
