Yerevan hopes for implementation of border opening agreements with Türkiye
Yerevan expresses hope for the implementation of the agreements reached at the talks between the special envoys of Armenia and Türkiye.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the statement while speaking at the session of the National Assembly's standing committees on the draft state budget for 2024, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
He recalled that this agreement concerns the border opening for citizens of third countries and holders of diplomatic passports.
"Significant work has been done in terms of border infrastructure. We have rearmed Margar checkpoint and we are ready for such processes (border crossing - ed.) and we will hope that these agreements will be implemented," the Armenian Prime Minister added.
In December 2021, Armenia and Turkey appointed their special representatives for negotiations on the normalisation of bilateral relations. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Ruben Rubinyan was appointed by Armenia, while former Ambassador to the United States Serdar Kılıç represents Ankara. The diplomats have already held four rounds of talks, the first meeting was held in Moscow, the other three in Vienna. In addition, the first telephone conversation between the Armenian Prime Minister and the Turkish President took place in July 2022, and their first face-to-face meeting took place on October 6.
