Furthermore, Azerbaijan approved a general plan for the development of liberated Aghdam city until 2040.
Asadov signed a corresponding decree. The decision was made taking into account the proposal of the State Committee of Urban Planning and Architecture.
The decades-long conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan erupted on September 27, 2020, when Armenian forces stationed in occupied Azerbaijani territory shelled Azerbaijani military positions and civilian settlements. During the 44-day counter-attack operations, Azerbaijani forces liberated over 300 settlements from nearly 30-year-long illegal Armenian occupation, including the cities of Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli, and Shusha. Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia signed a tripartite statement on November 10, 2020, to end the war. Armenia also agreed to return to Azerbaijan the occupied Aghdam, Kalbajar, and Lachin districts. Aghdam was the first Azerbaijani district to be liberated under the document's post-war non-combat conditions.
