Tehran police chief's statement about terrorist attack on Azerbaijani embassy turns out to be false

27 January 2023 15:42

New footage of the attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran has been released, exposing the inaccuracy of statements by Tehran Police Chief Hussain Rahimi, who had earlier reported that "the attacker entered the embassy with two children".

The released video footage shows the terrorist approaching the Azerbaijani diplomatic corps in a car with no children in it. After getting out of the car, the perpetrator with a Kalashnikov in his hands headed towards the embassy building.

The incident was recorded by the embassy's surveillance cameras.

Earlier, Tehran Police Chief Hussain Rahimi said the attacker entered the embassy with two children. Tehran police said the attack was motivated by family problems and personal motives. However, footage suggests otherwise: it was more of a planned act of terrorism.

An armed attack on the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran was carried out on the morning of January 27. According to Azerbaijani intelligence, the attacker entered the building with a Kalashnikov in his hands, killing the head of the security service. Two embassy security guards were also injured in the attack. The condition of the wounded is assessed as satisfactory.
