UN Security Council, UN General Assembly circulate letter from Azerbaijani FM as document

12 October 2023 14:19

UN Security Council and UN General Assembly have circulated as a document the letter from Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on the results of local anti-terrorist measures carried out by Azerbaijan in the Karabakh region.

The letter, addressed to the UN Secretary-General on September 27, 2023, provides information on the results of localised anti-terrorist activities carried out by Azerbaijan on its sovereign territory, the Karabakh region, in full compliance with international humanitarian law and with the aim of putting an end to the illegal presence of Armenian armed forces, which threaten the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The letter also provides information on the process of disarmament of the Armenian armed forces, demobilisation and reintegration measures undertaken by Azerbaijan.

It stresses that the amount of weapons and ammunition confiscated within the framework of the process of disarmament of illegal Armenian formations is a clear example of the transformation of the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan into a militarised zone and proves that Armenia has continuously illegally supplied these formations with ammunition in violation of the provisions of the Trilateral Statement.

The document notes that such destructive actions of Armenia undermine the peace process efforts initiated by Azerbaijan and continued for the last 3 years aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The letter also informs the UN secretary-general about the humanitarian aid delivered to the local Armenian population along the Lachin-Khankendi and Aghdam-Khankendi roads.

The letter underlines Azerbaijan's unwavering commitment to the efforts to ensure the rights and security of the Armenian residents, their reintegration into the social, economic, legal and constitutional framework of our country, calls on Azerbaijan to firmly reject any efforts aimed at inciting hatred and hostility and to support efforts for peaceful coexistence.
