Serbia signs contract on self-propelled artillery supply to Azerbaijan PHOTO/VIDEO

06 February 2024 13:14

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that Serbia has already signed a contract with Azerbaijan for the supply of self-propelled artillery.

The matter rests in 48 155-mm NORA B52 self-propelled howitzers on a Serbian-made wheeled chassis worth $339 million, Caliber.Az reports citing Defence Turk’s message on X.

Nora B52 is a self-propelled howitzer designed to destroy an enemy’s personnel, artillery batteries, bunkers, as well as to facilitate passages through minefields and fields with obstacles. The main weapon is a long-barreled 155 mm self-propelled gun-howitzer. It has been created on the FAP 2832 chassis with an 8x8 wheel. It is durable against shells, bullets, shrapnel and mines.

The main weapon of the Nora B52 self-propelled gun is a 155-mm howitzer gun with a 52-caliber barrel, a 23-liter powder chamber and a double muzzle brake. The powder chamber is designed on a self-loading principle and is connected to a rotating primer carrier.

It is possible to use modular charges in accordance with the military requirements of Western European countries. The maximum firing range of 41 kilometres is achieved by using AR ERFB BB ammunition.

The hydraulic system for recoil reduction consists of overlapping quadrangular hydraulic mounts with built-in shock absorbers, operated by a control panel located on board. The transfer to the combat position occurs in one and a half minutes.

The automatic loading system allows to speed up the rate of fire and reduces the physical load of the crew. Rate of fire – 6-12 shells per minute (the first 3 in 20 seconds). Some 12 slots for shells are located on each side. Carryable ammunition is 36 rounds.

The elevation angle is from −3° to +51° with a maximum speed of 20 mm/sec, and the horizontal rotation angle is 60° at a speed of 100 mm/sec. An electro-hydraulic system is used during the movement.

Travel speed on the highway is up to 100 km/h, over rough terrain up to 25 km/h. It is possible to overcome water barriers and small obstacles. The 28 ton-self-propelled gun is transportable by cargo planes, trains and ships. The crew consists of 4-5 people.

The Nora B52 howitzer is provided with the main equipment from the Network-Centric Warfare system, which is used primarily by the US Army and all land, sea and air military units can be used in the battle. First of all, it includes numerous sensors and radars that make it possible to detect friendly troops and simulate a combat situation, speeding up communications.

The self-propelled howitzer has a protected cabin with a cabover configuration for a crew, behind which a protected turret with weapons is mounted. The Serbian self-propelled gun is as good as other wheeled self-propelled guns such as G6 from South Africa or DANA from the Czech Republic thanks to the armour.
