Ankara coal mine disaster: 13 injured, authorities probe cause of collapse
A coal mine collapse in the Beypazarı district of Ankara early on April 10 left 13 workers injured, with two in critical condition.
The incident occurred in the machinery section of a mine located in the Hirkatepe neighborhood, where a sudden collapse triggered by pressure injured workers who were operating nearby, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Emergency services swiftly responded, transporting the injured workers to Beypazarı State Hospital for treatment.
Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin confirmed the incident, stating that a total of 29 workers were present at the mine at the time of the collapse.
He provided additional details to reporters, saying: “Thirteen workers were injured in the collapse — two were transferred to Ankara, while the remaining eleven are being treated at Beypazarı State Hospital.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collapse.
