Armenia affirms continued wheat imports from Russia
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has reaffirmed that Armenia will continue purchasing wheat from Russia, dismissing speculation that Yerevan plans to abandon Russian grain imports.
“Armenia will never refuse to purchase wheat from Russia. I officially declare that it will never refuse,” Pashinyan said, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
However, he added that the government would still explore other options in the global market.
“But Armenia will never refuse to look at what else is on the market—who else is selling wheat? Are there any offers for wheat?” he said.
His remarks come after Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) claimed that Armenia was seeking to distance itself from Moscow for political reasons and intended to buy Ukrainian grain at inflated prices, allegedly with the European Union compensating the difference.
