Armenia - birthplace of systemic Islamophobia Statement by Western Azerbaijan Community
Spokesperson of the Western Azerbaijan Community Ulviyya Zulfugar has described Armenia as the first country where Islamophobia became systemic.
“Armenia has become the birthplace of Islamophobia, and it became systemic in this country,” the spokesperson said as she addressed the panel “Acts of deliberate destruction and desecration of Islamic cultural and religious heritage in non-Muslim countries" on the sidelines of the conference on "Preserving Diversity: Combating Islamophobia in 2024" in Baku, Caliber.Az reports.
"Today we are on the path to promote a world in which respect, tolerance and understanding transcend race, religion and ethnicity. Historical chronicles and the course of events prove that Armenia was among the first to elevate religious and ethnic intolerance against Muslims to the level of state policy. In fact, Armenia is the cradle of the emergence and systematic spread of Islamophobia. It is hard for me to even remind that Armenia not only expelled and killed Azerbaijanis, but also methodically erased the rich cultural heritage belonging to them in the places of their residence in the territory of present-day Armenia," she noted.
