Turkish VP praises Azerbaijani, Armenian leaders for advancing peace talks
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has emphasised that a fair and lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia serves the interests of all parties involved.
He stated that fostering good neighbourly relations and respecting internationally recognised borders will benefit every state in the region. Türkiye, he affirmed, will continue to actively support peace, stability, and prosperity in the South Caucasus.
Yılmaz’s remarks were published on Saturday, August 9, via the social network NEXT Sosyal, following the historic trilateral meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States at the White House, local media reports.
Expressing his satisfaction with the signing of the Declaration on Peaceful Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Yılmaz underscored the document’s critical role in ensuring lasting peace across the Caucasus. He noted that reconciliation between Baku and Yerevan would pave the way for long-term stability and prosperity in the region.
He further highlighted that enduring peace will bolster Türkiye’s economic relations with the South Caucasus and Central Asia, unlocking new opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, energy, logistics, and other sectors. According to Yılmaz, this progress will generate positive momentum for development not only in Eastern Anatolia but also across the entire Turkish economy.
The Turkish Vice President also praised Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for advocating peace despite resistance from certain opposition factions.
He expressed “sincere gratitude” to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his pivotal role in advancing the peace process to its current stage, and extended thanks to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for providing strategic support to Azerbaijan during a crucial period.
