Armenia says Russia, Iran see no obstacle to US partnership in TRIPP project
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said Moscow and Tehran have not expressed any concern about the presence of American partners in the region under the TRIPP project, also known as the “Trump Route.”
Speaking at a conference organised by the Orbeli analytical research centre, Mirzoyan noted that Armenia already hosts companies with American investment, alongside firms backed by Argentine, Chinese and other foreign capital, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
He acknowledged that the TRIPP initiative has drawn significant political attention but said it should not be viewed as compromising Armenia’s sovereignty.
“It has political significance and serves as one of the guarantors and instruments of peace,” Mirzoyan said.
Negotiations with the American side are ongoing, he added, stressing that the project envisions the creation of an Armenian-American company responsible for construction and daily management.
“This does not imply American control over the infrastructure. All issues concerning sovereignty and authority have been settled and reflected in the signed and published documents. It is only about management,” the minister said.
Mirzoyan also noted that both Iran and Russia are interested in the project. Russia, he reminded, already operates another major company in Armenia — the South Caucasus Railway.
He concluded by asking that the project be referred to by its official name, TRIPP.
