Armenia sets 20% increase in defence budget for 2025
The Armenian government has presented a draft state budget for 2025 to parliament, which received approval during a cabinet meeting on September 26.
According to the proposal, the country's defence spending will see an increase of approximately 20 per cent compared to the current fiscal year, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
For 2025, Armenia's military budget is set to exceed AMD 664 billion, marking an increase of AMD 110.46 billion from 2024, which had a budget of AMD 555 billion. The Ministry of Defence plans to allocate these funds across five key areas.
A primary focus will be the "Ensuring the Defense of the Republic of Armenia" program. This initiative includes expenditures for the maintenance of the armed forces, procurement of military equipment, vehicles, communication systems, barracks, technical equipment, food supplies, uniforms, fuel, and lubricants, as well as potential internal procurement of weapons and ammunition.
Additionally, substantial funding will be earmarked for the medical care of servicemen (AMD 1.4 billion), military training and retraining, which includes education at foreign military institutions (AMD 1.72 billion), international military cooperation (AMD 941.6 million), and humanitarian demining efforts (AMD 321 million).
As of now, the exchange rate stands at one US dollar equaling AMD 389.
