Armenian defence minister off to Greece
Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan has departed for an official visit to Greece.
"The delegation led by Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan left for a working visit to the Hellenic Republic on May 5," the Ministry's press service stated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
During his previous visit to Greece in December 2023, the two countries' defence ministers signed an agreement on military-technical cooperation. The agreement focuses on areas such as arms procurement, joint training, and defense industry collaboration. This growing partnership also reflects Armenia’s broader effort to diversify its military alliances and reduce dependence on traditional partners such as Russia.
In December 2024, Armenia, Greece, and Cyprus held trilateral defence consultations in Athens, resulting in the signing of bilateral and trilateral defence cooperation programs for 2025. These plans encompass a range of activities, including operational training, special forces exercises, and the adoption of new defence standards.
