Armenian paradox: Ruling party leads, but Pashinyan lacks credibility GALLUP International survey

04 August 2023 14:23

Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party would win the parliamentary elections if they were held next Sunday.

Director of the Armenian office of the GALLUP International Association Aram Navasardyan made the remarks, commenting on the results of the poll, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

According to the results, 13.3 per cent of respondents would vote for "Civil Contract", 3.8 per cent for "Armenia" bloc, 1.8 per cent for "Prosperous Armenia", 1.5 per cent for "Honour I Have", 1.2 per cent for "Public Voice" and the same number for "Republic".

Additionally, 0.8 per cent would vote for "Dashnaktsutyun2", 0.5 per cent for "Citizen's Decision", 0.4 per cent each for the ЭArmenian National CongressЭ and "Sasna Tsrer", 0.3 per cent for "Country of Life", 0.2 per cent for "Enlightened Armenia" and 0.1 per cent for "5165".

"36.3 per cent of respondents said they would not go to the elections, another 20.2 per cent found it difficult to answer," Navasardyan said.

Notably, in the same poll, 54 per cent of respondents said they do not trust Pashinyan. Such is the Armenian logic.

Meanwhile, quoting the results of the survey, one-third of Armenian citizens (30.4 per cent) fear for the security of the republic.

According to the information, 27.8 per cent of Armenian citizens are worried about the problem of demarcation of borders, while 32.4 per cent of Armenians are concerned about the threat of a new war.

Some 30.7 per cent of citizens named the situation around Karabakh as the main problem of Armenia.

The poll was conducted from July 27 to 31 in Armenia, encompassing 1100 respondents.
