Authorities announce worst-case flood scenario in Russia's Orsk
The development of the flood situation in the Orenburg region is difficult to predict due to heavy rainfall, but in Orsk the situation is developing according to the most unfavorable scenario.
This was reported by the Telegram channel of the press service of the governor and the regional government.
“According to the worst scenario for the development of flood conditions in Orsk, there are 6,644 residential buildings in the flooding area. The operational flood forecast for the region is complicated by heavy rainfall, which is expected in the next 24 hours,” the report says.
It is noted that the flood affected 27 municipalities in the Orenburg region. As of the morning of April 7, 4,064 people, including 885 children, were evacuated from flooded settlements. Energy supply was disrupted in 8,816 residential buildings. The government also announced the deployment of 33 temporary accommodation centers with a total capacity of 23,325 people.
On the evening of April 5, in the city of Orsk in the Orenburg region, a dam broke in two places at once. According to local residents, it had been leaking for several days. They are urgently trying to seal the dam, and people are being evacuated from the city. Several thousand buildings and households were flooded.
More than 700 rescuers are taking part in rescue operations in flooded Orsk. Additional groups of the Centrospas detachment, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the Kirov Region, and the Ural Institute of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation joined in rescuing residents and their property. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations personally flew to the region.
