Azerbaijan condemns attack on UAE embassy in Damascus
Azerbaijan has strongly condemned an attack on the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Damascus, describing it as a serious breach of international law and diplomatic norms.
In a statement posted on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said: “We strongly condemn the recent attack by a group of protesters on the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic.”
The ministry stressed that violence targeting diplomatic missions is unacceptable under any circumstances.
“Such acts of violence against diplomatic missions are unacceptable and constitute a clear violation of international law, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the safety and protection of diplomatic personnel and premises,” the statement read.
Baku also welcomed the response from Syrian authorities, expressing support for efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
“We welcome the statement issued by the Syrian authorities and their commitment to take all necessary measures to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law,” the ministry added.
Earlier, Syrian security forces arrested two suspects linked to an attack on the United Arab Emirates embassy in Damascus, the Interior Ministry said on April 5.
The ministry confirmed that legal action was taken immediately, stressing that attacks on diplomatic missions are a “red line” and pledging continued protection of embassies in line with international norms.
Syria’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the incident, reaffirming that diplomatic missions are safeguarded under international law and represent ties between nations.
