The explosion took place at the Quetta railway station in Balochistan province as a morning train was preparing to depart for Peshawar.
Authorities report that dozens were injured in the attack, which has been attributed to the Balochistan Liberation Army, a militant group seeking independence for the region. The attack is believed to have been a suicide bombing.
Balochistan, rich in natural resources, remains Pakistan’s least developed province and has recently seen an increase in deadly attacks fueled by separatist tensions.
The blast, caused by explosives weighing 6-8 kg, targeted both civilians and military personnel, with around 50 others injured in addition to the 25 fatalities, including the suicide bomber.
Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, also condemned the attack, calling those responsible the "enemies of humanity."
The region, marked by its resource wealth, shares borders with Iran and Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and has a strategic coastline along the Arabian Sea.
