Azerbaijan is set to deepen its collaboration with UNESCO, with both sides exploring new opportunities for institutional partnerships and joint scientific initiatives.
During a visit to Paris, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, met with Lidia Brito, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, the ministry's press service told Caliber.Az.
Their discussions took place within the framework of the Global Ministerial Dialogue on Science Diplomacy and focused on expanding cooperation in natural sciences.
One of the key topics on the agenda was the integration of climate literacy indicators into the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This initiative stems from an agreement between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as part of the COP29 climate summit.
Amrullayev and Brito also exchanged views on STEAM education, emphasizing the importance of fostering international collaboration in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Beyond UNESCO, Azerbaijan is also expanding its global academic outreach. During the Paris visit, the Azerbaijani delegation met with Azzedine El-Midaoui, Morocco’s Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation.
The discussions revolved around ongoing partnerships in science and higher education, with both sides looking at ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
