Azerbaijan, Harvard launch upgraded Green Growth Portal to drive global energy transition
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy, in collaboration with Harvard University’s Growth Lab, has launched an enhanced version of the Green Growth Portal, initially introduced last year during COP29 in Baku.
The portal consolidates critical data on the global energy transition and provides guidance to countries and investors seeking to advance their green transition strategies, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry.
The platform offers interactive analytical tools designed to identify opportunities for developing new industries, markets, and economic sectors. Since its launch, the portal has served over 1.7 million users and is integrated with Harvard’s Atlas of Economic Complexity, granting access to an extensive database of economic development insights and analytics.
The updated version features enhanced functionality and innovative tools to assist countries in navigating the $2 trillion global energy transition. Professor Ricardo Hausmann, founder and director of the Growth Lab, highlighted via social media that, with support from the Azerbaijani government, the platform now provides guidance to 140 countries on how to participate in the global shift toward sustainable energy.
Great to launch Greenplexity 2.0 to coincide with COP30. It helps 140 countries find paths to participate in the value chains that will power the energy transition. Thanks to the Gov of Azerbaijan, who supported this research in the context of their presidency of COP. Enjoy!!! https://t.co/Vj7kzF8rHE

A key feature of the portal is the Greenplexity Index, which evaluates countries’ readiness for the energy transition. The current top five ranked nations are Japan, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, and China.
The final version of the Green Growth Portal is set to be unveiled at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil, offering the international community a comprehensive tool to support sustainable development initiatives.
Officials emphasize that the project represents a major milestone in Azerbaijan’s strategic policy to foster a low-carbon, knowledge-based, and innovative economy. It also reinforces Azerbaijan’s global leadership in expanding economic opportunities linked to the green transition while strengthening resilience to climate change.
This upgraded portal positions Azerbaijan at the forefront of international efforts to facilitate sustainable economic growth and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy strategies worldwide.
