Azerbaijan, ICESCO discuss cooperation
Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Director General Salim Mohammed AlMalik and Azerbaijani Culture Minister, Chairman of the Azerbaijan National Commission for Education, Science and Culture Anar Karimov have met to discuss the cooperation prospects.
An article on Azerbaijan-ICESCO cooperation has been published on the organization official website, Caliber.Az reports, citing icesco.com.
According to the article, AlMalik and Karimov reaffirmed their interest in strengthening cooperation.
Moreover, AlMalik expressed gratitude for the projects and programmes initiated within the cooperation between ICESCO and Azerbaijan, emphasising Baku's significant contribution to the potential development and youth support in the field of innovation, modern technologies, preservation of cultural heritage, strengthening peace and intercultural dialogue.
In turn, Karimov stressed Azerbaijan's commitment to support ICESCO and highly appreciated the role of the organisation within its new vision and strategy to consolidate the values of unity and solidarity in the Islamic world.
The minister also noted the organisation's efforts to establish peace, encourage intercultural dialogue and renounce violence.
Karimov said that Azerbaijan has submitted an application to ICESCO for the proclamation of Shusha city as the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2024, taking into account its heritage and historical significance.
He also stressed that at present, the procedural measures for the opening of the ICESCO regional office in Baku are under completion. It will start operating in early 2023.
