Azerbaijan interested in successful completion of peace process with Armenia Baku and Washington on phone
A telephone conversation was held on May 14 between Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Erika Olson.
During the conversation, the parties discussed the Azerbaijani-American bilateral relations, the current situation in the region, and the steps taken to normalise relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry's message.
Deputy Minister Mammadov said that Azerbaijan, as a party showing the main initiative towards the normalisation of relations with Armenia, including the signing of a future peace agreement, is interested in the successful completion of the process.
He added that, despite this, the efforts of Armenia to obstruct the peace process, including recent military provocations that caused casualties in the border area, are aimed at undermining international efforts for negotiations.
Erika Olson, for her part, noted the importance of establishing peace and stability in the region, and the need in this context to sign a peace agreement. She said the American side is always ready to support these negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, held on a bilateral basis.
The telephone conversation highlighted also a mutual interest in other bilateral and regional issues.
